Hi! My name is Shane Driscoll, and I love working with data.
I enjoy so many facets of working with data, especially:
- Managing it
- Organising it
- Securing it
- Optimising it
- Monetising it
- Gaining deep insights from it
I am driven by the challenge of solving problems with data, and at the heart of my approach to being a data professional are two guiding principles:
Stewardship & Advocacy
Stewardship
- Ensuring data is safe, secure, accurate and reliable. A good data professional ensures it is handled responsibly and with strict compliance in mind at all times.
Advocacy
- Information buried away deep in data storage, where the barrier-to-entry is significant to all but experts, has no voice of its own. Advocacy means bridging the gap between technical expertise and business impact to unlock real stakeholder insight.
Simply put, it’s frustrating to see somewhere where there is a goldmine of raw data but the owners lack some of the tools to process the raw ore and sift out the true value. That’s where I come in.
This blog will cover my learnings from being a SQL Server developer/administrator for over 17 years, my recent 4-3 years working with Databricks, and various bits and pieces in between about topics such as Python and time-series databases.
There will also be a real focus on a true passion I’ve had for many years, graph databases and Neo4j. This tech, when applied to the right problem, can be an absolute game-changer, and I consider it my personal mission to show you how.
The data field has given me so much over the years, and I’ve had the enormous fortune to work with so many very talented people who have freely given me the chance to share in and benefit from their knowledge and experience. I hope this blog can go some way to paying things forward.
Outside of work life, I live in London with my wife and son, not far from Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium. As a Spurs supporter however I keep a low profile…
Let’s Connect
I’m currently exploring new opportunities where I can make a real impact. If you’re looking for a problem solver who turns data into business value, let’s talk.
